Multi-tasking

This post is to talk about two things, Thanksgiving and Bear and Bitty thanking Miles and Holli for the catnip turtle.

First up, Thanksgiving. As I’m sure everyone reading this post knows, we didn’t go home for the holiday. So, what did we do, you may (not) be wondering? We hosted Thanksgiving. We had the whole kit and kaboodle–not like a chicken drummy dinner.

Here is what we had. I made a turkey, mashed potatoes (real, not box!), gravy, corn, sweet potatoes, made half of the green bean casserole, shrimp dip, cream cheese and ham pickles, pumpkin pie, and my mother’s marshmallow and whipped topping, graham crackers and pie filling dessert. My friend Amber brought the stuff for the sweet potatoes, and cranberries. Megan (and Dominic) brought beer, stuff for grean bean casserole (she finished making it), dinner rolls, and a chip dip that was pretty excellent, and Matt brought fruit salad, an apple pie, and the cans of corn. So, all in all, I proved to be a worthy cook, and we got to have a real Thanksgiving.

What did we do? Drank some good wine, watched football, and played trivial pursuit 90’s. Girls vs Guys, girls win, duh. In their defense, they gave us a good run, but we were just smart for them. Then we watched Grey’s Anatomy, which was a crazy good episode. Overall though, we just had a good time, enjoyed having company when all of us were away from home for the first time. All of our guests were from Wisconsin, so we had a midwest Thanksgiving.

I was pretty impressed with myself - I made the turkey without under or overcooking it. I was prepared, the food all got done at the same time, and I still wasn’t bogged down in the kitchen. Plus, the three boys did dishes, so I got to make a big mess and not have to clean it up.

In wedding news, I have the photographer booked, and I have asked all of my main players. Congratulations Alli, Alicia, Molly, Brenna and Gina on being selected Bridesmaids, and Congrats also to Holli Gregg, Mavi Schuler, and Lauren Winn for signing on as personal slaves, err, attendants at the event of the century. Good times will be had!

I also had a wedding dress appointment, and the dress has been picked! If anyone wants to see the online version let me know, I can send you the link. When I go to buy it soon, I will remember my camera, and then I can send pics to anyone. But, I can’t tell on here because Bryce can’t know too much. It’s a surprise til he sees it hanging in the closet.

Also, I got Bryce one of his presents, and he already opened it cause he knew what it was, and wanted to use it. Way to go Bryce, you can shave now. But I’ve got more presents coming in the mail, and he doesn’t know what they are. I also have curtains coming. The apartment is drafty, and not only will they look nice, they will help keep air in. JC Penney was having a sale on Black Friday, and I went to the site looking for something else and found curtains for half price that are now the same price as the cheapest at Target and Walmart, and had free shipping. Better product, same price. Awesome.

Other news, went to Walmart Black Friday afternoon, and got a cheap Christmas tree w/multi lights on it. Also bought some cheap decorations for it, as well as cheap stockings w/ glitter stickers, one for me, one for Bryce, and one for the cats to share. It helps me to forget that I didn’t get to help set up the tree the day after Thanksgiving as was tradition. But, because the tree came with the lights attached, can’t plug in the cheap star tree topper. Oh well, the cats keep digging in the tree and it falls off anyway.

And now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the cats.

It’s been awhile…

In fact like, almost two weeks. Long enough to be asked if I’d fallen off the face of the Earth (thanks for the concern Holli). So because my fans are calling here it is. Probably not as hughly anticipated as a new Harry Potter book, but hey, when you’ve got requests…

Well, the last few weeks have been filled with wedding and cats, and Applebee’s. I’ve had a few tests but nothing exciting in class, except that I got to play with my professor’s blood, making drops at different angles, footprints, blood drops on different surfaces, weapon impressions. He said he got tested for hepatitis and HIV so if we managed to swallow or get any blood in open wounds, we probably won’t die of liver or auto-immune disorders. Yeah!

As I said in the last posts, the cats had worms. Roundworms. Well, I gave them the Rid Worm Paste and the next day, I found out which cat had worms–both. They both had like 8 or 9 roundworms in their feces the next day. The piperizidine in the worming stuff anesthesizes any worms in the intestines and they defecate them out, It doesn’t do anything to worms that are in earlier stages, that live in the lungs or liver, so they have a wellness check (for free!) tomorrow, so I will probably pay to give them shots there, and then do the cheap paste later. If you give it a few weeks, worms mature into the stage that live in the intestine, so I have to keep giving it for awhile because my mom says the cats can’t come home for Christmas with me if they still have worms, even though they couldn’t give him worms. But, I suppose it is good for Bear and Bitty to get rid of their worms. They don’t need to eat for 10.

I am also done with training for carside to go. i am now not only a host, but a To-Go Specialist. But Bryce gets to train for a server next week, so I don’t know who’s cooler. He won’t ever work as Carside, so thats why he didn’t train for it. I do it on Monday and Friday mornings mostly, and he works at ADP, so, that’s how that goes. Money for one of us is money for both of us.

I can’t believe it is almost Thanksgiving - we have been out here for three months, and one more to go before we come home. Yeah! We are leaving on Friday, Dec 22 and arriving home on Saturday, weather dependent, in Bryce’s new car and with cats in tow. We’ll be leaving on Saturday the next weekend and getting back Sunday hopefully, but Bryce doesn’t work Monday either, cause it’s New Year’s, but we don’t know if we want to be driving home, or if we want to get back to hang out here. We’ll see.

While we are home, we have lots to do. Need to get engagement phtots, bridesmaids dresses, tuxes, our rings, flower consultation, the cake person, etc. Busy busy! but we still want to see everyone, so hopefully we can spend some evening with everyone. For those who don’t know or remember, 7-7-07, Zion Lutheran and then Matador! Fun to be had! We are trying to line up all the people to be involved and asking them, as well as lining up the different places and peripheral people (DJs, etc.). So, don’t get married kids, it’s too much work.

I have a video, for at leat Miles and Holli, from Bear and Bitty thanking them for the catnip turtle. I wish I could get one of them playing with Tony’s furry mice, but they’ve destroyed them. And the gold things they play with and leave it in the cat bowl in between, but the catnip in the turutle made them go crazy over the turtle. I will have Bryce figure this out soon, since now that I mentioned it, everyone is excited.

Things Bryce and I and pals have done recently: went to Borat, got a little grossed out and laughed a little. Held a “wine and cheese” at my place, drank wine, ate goat cheese, had a headache for work. Went to Stranger Than Fiction, thought was great! Super original, and very refreshing - a must see! Next up is Thanksgiving, hosted by us. We will have four of my classmates (one BF in there) from Wisconsin so we aren’t all alone for the holidays. Grey’s is having a special episode, I’ll have a turkey, we’ll make all the trimmings. A good time will be had!

Well, there you have it. I have a test to do tomorrow, and I’m Carsiding it, as well as take the cats to the vet and pick up the turkey, and go to class. Cripes!

It’s a Tuesday…

I bet I know what everyone did when they got up today… probably peed, ate breakfast, brushed their teeth, showered and got ready for the day. Or something along those lines. What did I do today?

I got up, peed, brushed my teeth and put in my contacts, and then put on my sweatsuit to go to Target for something I have been waiting for for months. So, I walked to the kitchen, and what do I see? Blood all over my $30 rug from Menards, with a light colored stringy clump in the middle. The same rug I had to wash on last Thurdsday because the cats threw up on it. So I go to inspect, and what do you know, the clump is moving. I grab a plastic sandwich bag and a paper towel, and grab the clump and put it in the bag. What is it, you wonder? Roundworms - intestinal roundworms. Four of them.  I recognized them from zoology lab when I had to dissect them. Still haven’t figured out what end they came out of, although I assume the hind end is more likely. I’m also pretty sure it is her that did it. I thought they had worms awhile ago because their bellies were hard and they had loose stools, but I switched their food and they’ve been better for weeks, plus they were supposedly wormed before I got them.

So then, I had to go to Petsmart, where I bought a cat nail clippers because I’m tired of using the fingernail clipper on them, and some dewormer for cat round orms. Then, it is off the store next door, Target. For what, as I have previously hinted? Something I have been waiting months for, and the day had finally come. And since this is Tuesday, it probably has something to do with a new release of entertainment nature. Of course, it was Keith Urban’s new CD, Love, Pain, and the whole Crazy Thing!

Anyone who knows me should have figured that one out. I don’t spend much money on entertainment things, only a few things, good country CDs. And by the way, if you looking for something not twangy country but not the unrelatable garbage found in many other genre’s, Keith is a good start. I think most people understand what it is most country songs versus hip hop, rap, and well, most genres because you can’t even understand what they are saying. I like country because it is real life for people other than brotha’s In Da Club sipping Bacardi like it’s your birthday, and whatever it is Fall Out Boy is saying in their songs. Although for the most part, I like the beat to groups like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. If you looked in my CD case, you’d find more variety than you’d assume. But country is still where it’s at, and most of the country agrees with me. Not alot of the people who will read this fall in that category, but none-the-less, it’s true. For real real. Yee haw.

Ok, I don’t usually say Yee Haw. In fact I can’t remember the last time I said that. But, seriously, if you have any enjoyment of things country-style, check this cd out! Best part, if you get it at Target, you get up to four pre-sale tickets for a concert. Now I just need to find out when he’s coming here. Plus the CD was only $10 for opening week. I’ve listened to most of it, and it’s pretty good. I will stil always like Golden Road the best, but it’s very good.
I also bought an exercise ball that comes with a DVD. One of my old teammates told me that golf winter training started, and they are doing the exercise ball workouts we did last year. Since I need to get in a little better shape for the wedding, I’m going to start working out again. Now I just need to get motivated to open the box and blow the ball up.
I also stopped by the grocery store. There is this Thanksgiving promotion that if you earn 250 points in October and the first part of November, you get a free turkey coupon redeemable up to Nov. 25th. We had to earn like 20 more points by the 11th, and I earned the points today, so now, we have a turkey for Thanksgiving. Bryce and I are planning on inviting up the other members of my class who are not going home up to our place for a wine-filled Thanksgiving. We (will) have the turkey, and we could probably get the potatoes, and then everyone interested just brings up a traditional side dish, so we’ll get our dinner after all, even if it isn’t back home. Now I just have to get the necessary things to cook a turkey.

One thing I forgot to mention is that not only did I put the worms in a plastic ziplock bag, I brought them to school with me to show my friends. Science people, we have different interests. Especially us forensic people.

And then I found $50.
