Marathon

October 8th, 2009

Just as Miles was thinking of getting rid of all the MilesRausch.com’s, here’s a post!

I’m only posting about the marathon, so if you’re looking for any house talk, that’s not in this post.

Well, Sunday I went up and done it again! I ran my 2nd marathon in 5 months and this one came at a higher cost with worse results, but overall a way better experience.

Marathon 1: First Marathon, didn’t know what to expect, trained just for a few months
Marathon 2: Second, felt like I knew exactly what to expect, yet I walked during this one and didn’t the first time after training much better.

Marathon 1: Had absolutely no one watching. Linds showed up only at the end and my running partner Bartley injured his knee in the first 3 miles.
Marathon 2: I stuck with Dad and Mol for the first mile before breaking off, but had tons of support. I saw Ryan and Natalie twice on the course, Tyler on a bridge, Mom and Bren, Chet and Tyler at mile 26, Chris Prosczko at mile 23 who caught me walking and as casually as absolutely possible goes, “hey Bryce, get going”, Amber John and Grace at mile 26, and then Sue, Dave, and Houa at the finish (Dave actually sprinted beside me, but I had no idea), and Josie and George Vania had made a sign for us!

Marathon 1: Injury Free, though had a few conditioning injuries (vomit, blistered sun burns)
Marathon 2: Really hurt my knee, not sure what I did, thought time had healed it, but just tried to jump and OUCH!

Marathon 1: Trained by myself
Marathon 2: Trained by myself

The TC Marathon is a beautiful course and MSP/SP is clearly a place that gets behind their runners and gets into the marathon, unlike Cleveland. Way better organized, more runners, tougher but prettier course.

Thanks to everyone that came out, for those that didn’t, dad’s got some pics online, eventually I’ll post, too, I think.

2nd coolest highlight: seeing the Twins win on saturday night and seeing so many former greats!

I’ve heard that it’s the prettiest marathon course in the country. So it’s good you walked during this one, you could really take it in!

    Also: Way to go!
And: Sorry we couldn’t be there to cheer you all on.

So you run for fun? I thought that was just a joke.

    Congrats?

No creepy old guy handing out ginger candy to all the young marathoners this time? I call that a WORSE marathon. Old guys with candy are awesome, and they usually have cool unmarked vans!
