Congrats Dad on a state level and the Socialist Party for the White House. Holli and Miles, enjoy your baby, it’ll be the only one you’ll be allowed to have.

Go Phillies

As I’ve said before somewhere my second favorite baseball team is the Phillies. So, I was pretty glad they won the World Series last night.

This video is frickin hilarious. I hope the guy landed awkwardly and limps at work tomorrow.

Colorado State not pre-ranked again

Not to bring attention to it, but Colorado State once again is not pre-ranked for Men’s Basketball. Maybe its because they didn’t win any conference games last year?

Pretty sure this post means Timmy will never visit again.

Churches

Linds and I have now lived in Ohio for a couple months and are both finally working. So this post will cover two things I wanted to cover: Job and Church.

Job:
Well, I have five interviews and five offers.
Job 1: A transfer with the company I had been with. Offer: $34k base salary, k, health, stock purchase plan, commish, car/cell allowance. Pros: Very familiar with products and system. Cons: Decrease in base salary, incentive tiers, and rank.
Job 2: A company that places professional IT people with Forture 200 companies in Cleveland. I call on companies, ask what their IT needs are and if it can be temporarily fixed, and place the talent. $30k base, commish, car/cell allowance, k, health, weekly payroll. Pros: Interesting sale. Cons: Money, hours, location of office.
Job 3: Small payroll company. Offer: $42k base, commish, k, health, car/cell/expense allowance. Pros: Would be one of a salesforce of 3 so if company takes off, on board early on. Very cool CEO who I could use as a mentor. Cons: Inexperience in payroll, main focus on Group Health, which will be going through some changes one way or another in January.
Job 4: Selling 401(k) plans for the #1 seller of 401(k)’s in the country. Offer: $45k base, commish, k, health, car/cell/expence allowance. Pros: have wanted to get into stocks. Two of my colleagues are top reps company wide. Easier sale cause calling existing clients. Cons: Wouldn’t license me and economy could hurt sales.
Job 5: Middle sized payroll company. Offer: $45k base, commish, k, health, car/cell/expense allowance, stock. Pros: Territory where I live, better payroll company product than job 1 and job 3, very difficult interview process that I survived. Cons: Remaining in payroll.

So, I chose job 5. I’m currently in week 3 in Cinci for training. So far, very exciting about the possibilities.

Church:
So, we’ve been in Ohio and I still haven’t chosen which church to join. All of them have the pros and cons, and I can’t decide.
When choosing a church, I want to feel comfortable there, I want to feel like I could fit in somehow if I wanted to get involved, cool architecture, decent music, interesting homilies, preferably young priest, close to home. Here are my nominees:
St. Bridgets:
Closest to home (less than a mile). Two priests, one young guy who’s meh and an old guy who’s a trip (reminds me of Bishop Dudley actually). Boring architecture. Reminds me of what I think Turtons church looked like. Music is alright, looks like they have a hippie as a guitar player.
st. john bosco: Not too far from home, about 3 miles. Only been there once. They display all the songs and readings on an overhead projector and put it on the wall. The music is way over the top and that is actually a killer for me. Even though it seems young and energetic, the music alone is too much. Reminds me of the music at Brookings, with the trap sets, etc.
st, charles:
Besides sharing a name with my hometown church, this is my favorite church. It is also pretty far away, like 5-10 miles. I love the architecture, traditional stone. Priest is only ok. Also, the biggest church. So, I love the actual church and the energy, but I don’t like how far away it is and the priests aren’t super great (not bad, just not that amazing).
Holy Family
Was the first church we went to. Don’t like the architecture. Didnt’ like anything about it and its the furthest away. This church is dead to me.

There you go. I want to dedicate myself to a church, feel free to research them if you can and give me your thoughts, I think both St. Charles and St. Bridget are online.
(I keep thinking we went to another once, but if I did it clearly didn’t make an impression on me.

The Obama Nation

Well. I read another political book. I haven’t read very many, but if I’m anything it’s obsessive with my interests and with so much political talk on the radio and tv I felt compelled to check this book out.

So, what did I think? A bit much…like wow. Here’s what I wanted to get out of the book: Here are the reasons that you shouldn’t vote for Obama, his ideas have been proven not to work and other interesting things. What did I get? I got a “Hey, Obama’s dad was a really bad guy, so Barrack is a bad guy” logic for 400 pages.

Here are some highlights from the book:
Lies in his books- the author tries to discredit Obama by analyzing everything written in Obama’s 2 books. I mean, if its wrong it’s wrong, you can’t refute that. And some of what he’s written were misleading on purpose. So, no argument, but honestly, analyze any politicians books that they wrote/dictated and you’ll find that. They want to get elected afterall.
Studied Islam- For me, this isnt’ a big deal. But then I know for some old school racists it actually could be a factor in voting. The fact is, friends of Obama said he practiced/believed in Islam up until his marriage with Michelle. He then left it for Christianity. He also admits to having worshiped it as a child when he grew up in the Phillipines (I think it was there anyway). He obviously would be one of just 2 Washington politicians who are muslim, and of course the first president. The issue is that he denies it while some of his high school and college friends say he practiced.
Black Rage- Apparently, as a youth and through his undergrad he was what could be seen for that time period as a fairly normal african american college man. He read some authors that preached black power, beliefs following the black panthers, and general angry black literature. I don’t think it makes him a radical, I think you shouldn’t judge someone for that, especially if he’s got a clean record and just did some blow and weed in college. Could’ve been worse, not that HE was actually violent.
Denying white upbringing- When he was very young he moved in with his grandparents who were both white. In fact, he was raised by his grandparents through high school. That means for most of his youth he was essentially white, yet denies that heritage vehemently, in fact, talks shit on his grandma a lot of times saying she was a racist. (Once she was harrassed on her way to work by a black man, and he made the point that it wasn’t that she was harrassed, but because the man was black. After that he essentially started hating his ‘Nana). I don’t think that’s cool, being raised white, being half-white, and hating on your grandma for votes is wrong.
Relationship with Ayers. Duh.
He’s pretending to be Christian to be elected.
State House campaign corruption. He bought land from a man who then gave him a bunch of money for his campaign. The land was unliveable and so it was seen as Obama did him a huge favor by buying the land. Obama was later quoted saying it was a lack of judgement, but claimed he did nothing wrong.
Doesn’t understand the 2nd amendment. His flip flop on Washington D.C.’s concealed gun law.
Global Poverty Act. Tax U.S. Citizens to help the world out of poverty. Puts the burden on America for the worlds problems.

Those were more notes. My final thoughts, I think Obama has an excellent chance of being elected and the only thing that makes me uncomfortable is that he’ll have full control since it’s looking like the house, senate, and presidency could be blue. That being said I think throwing him in the white house with less experience than Governon Palin is poor judgement and I really don’t like him talking down to those “holding on to bibles and guns” which I think is one of the worst quotes I’ve heard of someone seeking office. This book didn’t scare me about Obama, in fact, it mostly disappointed me that the book was so extreme right that it failed to make plenty of perfectly valid arguments and chose the radical. I did learn a lot about Obama, since the book is very well researched I consider them slanted truths, but truths nonetheless, but it did not have the result I was hoping for.
