A very long engagement
I hope it won’t be as the title says, but I believe that’s the name of a movie.
Anyways, we are back from France and Linds has a rock on her finger. Here’s the story of how it happened.
We got off the plane and entered into an unusually hot day for Paris, 90 degrees. We immediately went to the Arc de Triumphe, or however you spell it, and then off to one of the most romantic spots of Paris, the Eiffel Tower. From the near top Linds and I, holding hands look over the beautiful city that extends beyond what the eye can see. You see building that had been built centuries ago, the place where great wars had taken over, the city that perhaps is the most famous city of all time.
I didn’t have the ring with me, in fact, we had all been up around 24 hours straight and were pretty crabby, I doubt Linds would even had said ‘Yes’ on that day anyways.
Then, we were at Mount Mart, overlooking all of Paris at sunset. We see the entire city as the sun falls in the west and the Eiffel Tower lit up and flashing in the distance. I didn’t have the ring, I had decided I was going to wait until we went to the coast and was going to do it in front of the sea, since I’m an ocean person now. Turns out this would’ve been the perfect time. But I guess it’s just a microcosm of our entire relationship.
Then, that night Miles and I talk about it and Miles is giving me pressure to just do it so Mom can calm down already. I tell him to market it, and he markets the shit out of it. Touche.
So, we’re in the Louvre and Linds is psyching out cause of the Egyptian displays. Rooms and rooms of this stuff. I gots da ring in my pocket this whole time and I’m thinking, when I see a painting or something of a wedding or just anything romantic I’ll pull the trigger. And this whole day I look and never see anything, keep switching pockets to put the ring into so she doesn’t find it, and finally, when we’re supposed to meet everyone outside at 5pm Linds had one last thing she wanted to look at in the Egyptian exhibit, so we race there, Miles, Brenna, Lindsey, and I. We get there, just decide to leave it and I have a quick meeting with Miles and Brenna saying it’s time, that Brenna should be pretending to get a picture of Miles, Linds, and I in the Louvre. Instead Miles takes a video with my camera and Brenna just gets some pictures with Miles’.
I get on one knee and say, “Lindsey, I know this whole trip I’ve told you I don’t have the money for a ring just yet, but I was wondering, even without a ring would you be my fiance?” She says, Umm, sure, and then I get up, get the ring out of my pocket and say, “well, in that case here’s the ring”
She cried, which was sweet, and I gave her the ring.
What went wrong:
1. Not a very romantic area like I had hoped for
2. Very dark where we did it so the lighting was bad
3. She felt the ring in my pocket the whole time and didn’t buy my first line at all
4. When I told her I had mom pick out the ring and buy it (it’s a loan) so Linds wouldn’t have any idea I had time to get a ring, whenever I say something like, “Do you like my ring” she says, “It’s your MOM’S RING”
5. She regrets that I didn’t ask the night before looking over Paris
But, I tried.
