Berfdayzzzz

I would like to wish Miles and Dan a happy 25th birthday. The quarter-century.

So, happy birthday gentlemen. Go out to eat. Maybe get way drunk. Have everyone do nice things for you. Gladly accept praise. And listen to the Birthday song by The Beatles…all day.

Biggest Loser

It’s a snow day today. We got somewhere around 1-4 inches of snow and we’re supposed to have ice and rain coming. With that we were more or less granted permission to work from home, which is what I’m doing.

There is so much work I’ve been wanting to do that strictly involves my database but not picking up the phone. And when you do work like that in the office, they look at your phone stats the next day and get mad.

So, for the biggest loser contest, thus far, I am not pleased with my results. I’ve lost a few pounds, but am no where near any of my goals. I had originally planned on doing 2-adays. Running in the morning, lifting at night. But, I’ve gotten lazy. I’ve gotten lazy in every respect, I haven’t cut out eating, I’m not working out as hard, and I’m not working out as long as I should.

Lindsey has been out in Washington DC the last few days. During that time I met up with my buddy Phil, and another night met up with my buddy Mike. What sucked was I fed everyone’s cats while they were away. One of the friends lives where Linds and I used to live. Which is about a 15 minute drive. That’s like having to feed someone’s cats in Correll.

Because I had some time today, I made a TV dinner in the over, as opposed to the microwave. And it was sooo much better. So, tell your grandkids, ovens are better.

This is a ramblin’ post, but I wanted you all to know what I’ve eaten, why I’m not at work, and how the diet is going. Pay it forward.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Ever since I was first growing up Valentine’s Day has been a big deal. Why? Is it how love is in the air, the exciting creations we make the store all of our candy, and writing the simple ” I choo choo choose you” messages on the inside of the colored paper valentine’s? For some yes, for me, No.

Nope, I’ve always been a fan because of my dad’s cockiness. That’s right, my dad goes around and says it’s HIS day. When Linds says “Am I your valentine?” I have to respond, “No, my dad is, you’re my wife”. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but she gets through it. Yes, as long as I can remember dad has used Valentine’s Day to wish himself a great day. As mom said on her blog, all he has to say is, “get your name on the calendar and you can have your own day, too”. If only my parents had named me “St. Patrick”!

So, I want to use this blog to wish my wife a Happy Valentine’s Day, it is our first as a married couple. I gave her earrings which she didn’t even make fun of, and we’ll be going out for seafood tonight, which has become our favorite type of food to dine-out to.

So, happy Valentine’s Day to everyone.

It’s been…One week since you looked at me

Alright, lent is one week deep at this point and Linds and I didn’t even drink on Sunday, which is our God given right to do so.
So…how have we done?

Well, to be honest, it’s not that hard, the weekend was kind of rough though. I never really went through any type of withdrawl, but i did feel like we were missing out and there just isn’t as much to do on weekends when all your friends drink. So, we watched movies, argued about this and that as usual, and went to the aquarium.

I think this lent thing is only going to be difficult when we start getting to Valentine’s Day (no wine), happy hours, and trips (she’s going to Washington DC).

Other then that, we’ve been boring. Sitting at home watching TV and working out. Maybe some sporadic reading. Right now I’m reading a book Dan lent (no pun intended) me about life after college. I have recently finished a John Feinstein book where he followed the PGA tour around each of the Major Tournaments (the season that O’Meara won twice). Very interesting, I do like his books.

That’s one odd thing, I’d usually come home, work out, crack a beer or have a glass of wine with my meal, and if you drink more than 2 glasses of wine, reading gets to be difficult. So, that’s one nice thing.

Anyway, how’s everyone else doing on their lenten promise? Mom I’m sure is having no problem cause everything she’s doing is subjective anyway.

HD

Wow. I see everyone is flexing their Blogging Muscles, and when I say everyone I mean just the people I like.
And the main topic of conversation…lent. Wow. I guess it makes sense, we usually see posts around holidays when we alter our routine a bit. Based on my reading, I feel for Dan the most. I know he’s given up meat before, and I know I could survive, but I’d be afraid to because you have to read up on that kind of thing to make sure you stay healthy. And more/most/morst importantly, if Dan gave up video games, who will save the world/release the first all-drums platinum pop album?

Friday night Linds and I, since was wasn’t drinking, we watched the movie Juno (director gave me a screener copy). Great. I’d recommend checking it out. It’s not slapstick or big action or anything like that, but is certainly a charming and clever movie based in…you guessed it, Minnesota. And thank God they didn’t even attempt the accent. Damn you Fargo!

I’d like to present a question to ya’ll.

Which sport looks the best in HD?
I’ve seen boxing, soccer, tennis, golf, basketball, football, baseball, Nascar, and hockey. Most of these are significantly better in HD. Like, night and day.

So, what are your thoughts? Which looks best in HD?

My opinion: golf. Not to say the rest aren’t unbelievable, but baseball, golf, and hockey all regularly are difficult sports to follow the ball/puck. But in HD, it makes it much much easier. So, between these, when you compare seeing these sports on regular TV versus in HD and being able to see the ball in-flight, see the green’s breaks, how the grass is cut, etc. Unmatched.
I’m no expert. So I want your opinions.

Lent, Beer, and UNC

Good morning readers. I haven’t posted since Sunday and guess what? I was drunk when I did it. Give me a break, the Super Bowl just got over, I was absolutely full on Corona and Wings, and ecstatic about the Giants win. And what do we all do in these situations
Crowd: Nap!!!

No. Blog. Thought I set you up pretty good for the correct response there, crowd.
Crowd: Boo, PLEDGE

Anyway. It’s been another fun week at the Bryce and what’s her name’s house. Sunday we hosted a decent sized party and ate wings galore. Linds did a marvelous job as always.
Tuesday we went to trivia and since Linds and I got hammered on purpose. It was our last night to drink for a while since we both are giving it up for lent.
Wed was Ash Wednesday and I fasted like the bawler I am. Also, watched UNC and Duke. More on that later.
Thursday we just hung out.

Alright, lets talk about Lent. I’ve usually been pretty bad about lent. “Oh, I’ll pray more” “I’ll quit running over puppies” “I’ll start recognizing Jesus, and not just Touchdown Jesus, as my Savior” “No more Cults” and “I’ll drink more”. Now, Linds thought it’d be a great idea to quit drinking. Which officially makes her the devil, which is totally against Lent. Thanks Linds! But really, there are numerous benefits.

Ok, maybe not as many as I thought. But, they are empty calories, I mean, with each beer its over 100 calories (usually), a night of drinking may end up causing you 1000 calories, that’s like a Big Mac. And who just drinks, you always get weird food cravings like greasy pizza, wings, or that damn Big Mac. So, usually your body takes a major toll WHILE drinking. Now lets discuss what happens the next day. Eyes burn, stomach aches, head throbs, sometimes because of dehydration you shake, tired all day, your ass explodes, and you don’t want to do anything. Usually I don’t get too hungover. I bounce back pretty easy. I’ve never been late for work cause of drinking, I’ve never felt my production reduce cause of drinking, but my mood definitely changes cause of drinking.
OH, and the money thing. Linds and I have ordered from this restaurant called Bensi. We get good food there for reasonable rates. When we go there and spend an hour or so, we end up with a $60 bill without tip. You can also order it to go, when we do that, HALF the bill and minimal tip. When we go out to bars and we have drivers and plan on spending a couple hours, we’re talking $30 bar bill.
Oh, and alcohol tends to lead to drinking and driving which is now illegal out here. Gay. I mean, lets say you run a pedestrian over, it’s prolly someone homeless, and where can you find a better home than Heaven?
So, we are setting up some cheating times over lent, but for the most part my nightly ritual of having wine or beer with my meal is going away.

UNC. Damn. It was the first UNC/Duke matchup of the year and they looked awful. Maybe because their all-star point guard was out with an ankle injury and they had more turnovers than 3-point shots (which was also at a terrible low). Whatever, it was bad. They would get on a run and Dooook would hit a 3 and kill the momentum. I see a lot of potential with this team, but they aren’t playing like one of the best schools in the country.

Sigh. Speaking of UNC DUKE, I remember watching the game once in Spearfish, SD with my cousin Dirk and Aunt Kelly and Kelly and Pete’s place. It was on a big screen TV, pre-HD days, during my spring break Freshman year of college, and it was awesome. The house was a beautiful house and we had been out in the snow all day and I watched the game. We lost.

So, this weekend should be fun, we’re planning on going into the city, checking out the Philadelphia Museum of Art and maybe the Camden Aquarium that Justin and Alicia checked out. They are having a Star Wars exhibit at the Franklin Art Institute, but I remember how limited the King Tut exhibit was and down expect great things.

Thats all from here.

Superbowlllll!!!!LOL@!@#!!@@!

I usually try not to post when I’m emotional. That is exactly why I don’t post on fights Linds and I have, and why for the most part I didn’t post about Notre Dame.

Except tonight. If I had a second team to root for besides the Vikings, it would be the Giants. Early in the season Linds admitted to me that, and prolly cause we had all the Giant games televised since we’re so close to NY, she was a close Giants fan. Why? Cause she felt bad for Eli, all those expectations and comparisons to Peyton. I was like, are you serious? And she said, yes. In fact, we went out and shopped around for an Eli Manning football Jersey. If you’re a woman, its a better bet to buy a children’s large than a woman’s small. So Linds did. And she wore that jersey every Sunday/Monday when the Giants played. They backed into the playoffs, they won every playoff game, and now…

They won the Superbowl.

We were an absolute wreck the last part of the game. I have me corner I have to stand in during FB games for good luck, and it worked. The catch, the touch down, the defensive hold. Amazing.

Go Giants. Go Rausch House.
